「仏説　お釈迦様が悪口を言われたら○○な対応をした経」
“Buddha’s Teachings: The Buddhist scripture of if SakyamuniBuddha is insulted, this is how Buddha responded”

或る時、お釈迦様が祇園精舎におられた時のお話です。
This is a story of when SakyamuniBuddha was at the Jetavana Monastery , once upon a time.

ざっざっざっざっ
Rush rush rush

アコーサという青年が何やらイライラしながらお釈迦様のもとにやってきました。
A young man by the name of Akkosa came to Buddha for some reason, very irritated.

そしてお釈迦様に会うや否や
As soon as he meets Buddha,

アコーサ：「ブッダのばかばかばか〇×△・・・！」
“Buddha, that stupid idiot #%@&!!”

とあらゆる悪口を言い始めたのです。
He began throwing various insults.

するとお釈迦様は、
Then Buddha responds with,

釈尊 ：「・・・」
Buddha: “…”

無視
Completely ignores it.

アコーサ：「貴様聞こえていないのか。ばかばかばか〇×△・・・と言ったんだ！」
Akkosa: “You fool, did you not hear me?! I said you’re a stupid idiot #%@&!!”

するとお釈迦様
Then Buddha responds,

釈尊：「・・・」
Buddha: “…”

無視
Completely ignores it.

アコーサ：「貴様！なぜ無視をする。」
Akkosa: “You fool! Why do you ignore me?!”

釈尊：「・・・」
Buddha: “…”

アコーサ：「うんとかすんとか言ってみろ！」
Akkosa: “Why don’t you say something?!”

釈尊：「うん　すん」

Buddha: “Something.”

アコーサ：「そうじゃない！無視するなと言っているんだ」
Akkosa: “That’s not what I mean! Don’t ignore me!”

釈尊：「アコーサよ。そなたは人に贈り物をしたことがあるか」
Buddha: Akkosa, have you ever given someone a gift?”

アコーサ：「質問かよ！あるに決まっているだろ」
Akkosa: “What kind of question is that?! Of course I have!”

釈尊：「もし渡した人が受け取らなかったら、その贈り物は誰のものだ」
Buddha: “If the person you try to gift does not receive it, then who does it belong to?”

アコーサ：「それはもちろん、贈ろうとした俺の物に決まっているだろう。」
Akkosa: “That’s obvious, it becomes mine as the person who tried to be the giver!”

釈尊：「そうであろう。ならば、そなたも同じだ。そなたはわたしに悪口を言った。しかし、わたしはそれを受け取らない。そうすると、悪口は誰のものだ。」
Buddha: “Is that so. Then you are the same. You insulted me. However, I did not receive it. In that case, who do those insults belong to?

アコーサ：「そ、それは・・・俺の物なのか。だが、ブッダよ。今こうして言葉を交わしているじゃないか。ならば、貴様が受け取ったことになるのではないか。」
Akkosa: “T-that’s… Mine. But, Buddha. Here we are exchanging words. So you are receiving my words, are you not?”

釈尊：「そうとはならない」
Buddha: “It is not always so.”

アコーサ：「なぜだ」
Akkosa: “Why is that?”

釈尊：「罵りを罵りで返し、怒りを怒りで返し、打たれたら打ち返し、やられたらやり返す。これならば、受け取ったといえよう。しかし、わたしは罵られても罵らず、怒りを怒りで返さず、打たれても打ち返さず、やられてもやり返さない。これならば受け取ったとは言わないのだ。」
Buddha: “Return a curse with a curse, return anger with anger, return pain with pain, return suffering with suffering. With this, you are receiving. However, if I am met with a curse, I do not curse. If I am met with anger, I do not anger. If I am met with pain, I do not cause pain. If I am met with suffering, I do not inflict suffering.”

アコーサ：「貴様はなぜ怒らないのだ」
Akkosa: “Why do you not get angry?!”

釈尊：「恨みを恨みで返すは愚かなり　智慧あるものは恨みがない　恨みを返さず恨みを抑え　憎しみに打ち勝たねばわが身を滅ぼす　アコーサよ　アコーサよ　瞋恚の炎で己が身を焼いてはならぬ」
Buddha: “Returning resentment with more resentment is foolish. Those with wisdom do not resent. Control the resentment without resenting. If you cannot rise above the hatred, your body will be ruined. Akkosa, dear Akkosa, you cannot burn me with your flames of rage.”

これを聞いたアコーサは、地面に膝をつき
Upon hearing this, it brought Akkosa down to his knees.

アコーサ：「仏陀よ。申し訳ございません。ばかばかとあなたを罵りましたが、ばかは私でございました。どうか、教えをお聞かせください。」
Akkosa: “Buddha, I’m so sorry. I called you an idiot, but it was I who was the idiot. Please teach me your ways.”

と、アコーサは悪口を言う愚かさを深く知り、仏陀の教えを聞くようになったのでございます。
And so, Akkosa learned the foolishness of badmouthing and learned to listen to Buddha’s lessons.
